Closing your German contracts before you fly home

The forms are all in German and the deadlines are strict. We'll help you put together a proper Kündigung (cancellation), and you stay in control of what actually gets sent.

Your documents stay on your own device, and nothing is sent until you've read it and agreed.

Start your cancellation

Ending a German contract takes more than clicking cancel

It's all in German

Every form, every deadline notice, every confirmation. Providers aren't required to offer English, and most of them don't.

Deadlines are strict

Miss the notice period by a day and the contract usually runs for another month. Nobody sends you a reminder.

You need proof it arrived

Sending isn't enough on its own. If the provider says it never came, you're the one who keeps paying, and most people have nothing to show.

Every provider does it differently

Different addresses, different forms, different kinds of proof. Some won't take email at all, and some keep the cancel button behind a login.

Why this is harder than it should be

None of it's obvious, and most of it only becomes a problem once you've already left.

Everything's in German

The contract, the bill, the cancellation form, and the reply that tells you whether it worked. German providers aren't required to offer English, and most of them don't.

They ask for a document you never had

Providers usually want an Abmeldebescheinigung, which proves you've deregistered at your local town hall. If you're with the U.S. forces you were never registered in the first place, so there's nothing to deregister from. Your orders serve the same purpose, and we explain that in the letter.

The last bill arrives after you've gone

Final invoices usually turn up four to eight weeks after the contract ends. If your German account is closed by then the payment fails, and unpaid bills here are passed to collection agencies fairly quickly.

APO addresses don't fit German forms

Some forms reject them outright. Others accept them and then the post never arrives. Either way you tend not to find out until much later.

You'll have left before anything goes wrong

If something needs sorting out, most people can phone up or go back to the shop. That's a good deal harder from another time zone, particularly once your German number has stopped working.

From a German invoice to a letter you understand

Clear steps, honest checks, no provider passwords, and nothing sent behind your back.

Add your latest invoice

We read it on your own device to find your Kundennummer (customer number), the contracts involved and the notice period that applies.

Check what we found

Every field stays editable, and anything we're unsure about is flagged before it can turn into a problem later.

Apply your PCS orders

German telecom law generally allows one month's notice taking effect from the date you move out. If your orders wouldn't get you out any sooner, we'll say so.

Review it, then send it yourself

You see the full Kündigung (cancellation) in German alongside a plain English explanation, before anything reaches the provider.

We work for you and nobody else

We don't sell contracts

No commissions, no replacement tariffs, and no provider paying us in the background. Nothing we recommend earns us money.

We'll tell you if you don't need us

If ordinary notice would end your contract just as quickly as your orders would, we'll say so rather than have you scanning and redacting documents for nothing. The same applies if a German service would suit you better.

Every address shows where it came from

We've verified addresses and rules for 19 German providers so far. If yours isn't one of them, tell us and we'll add it, usually the same day. You can check where each one came from in the directory before you rely on it.

Your documents stay with you

Invoices and orders are read on your own device. When you black something out it's burned into the image, and we check afterwards that the hidden text can't be recovered. If it can, we won't use the file.

What we keep, and for how long

Very little, and not for long.

Read on your device

Your invoice and your orders don't leave your computer. All of the reading happens in your browser.

One page only

If you're using orders, only the page showing your departure date is attached. Names, unit details and identification numbers are blacked out first, and we check the result before it goes anywhere.

Ninety days

If you'd like us to follow up with the provider, we keep your email address, the provider name and the relevant dates for ninety days. You can delete it whenever you like, and there's a delete link in every message we send.
